Board of Supervisors will partner with the University of California to Reopen MLK Hospital The storied Martin Luther King Jr. hospital in Willowbrook is one step closer to reopening. The hospital closed in 2007 after life-threatening mistakes were uncovered and the hospital failed an inspection by federal regulators. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a plan to partner with the University of California to reopen what they're calling the new MLK hospital. Thousands Catch A Break At Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway The lines were long, but the music was loud and the sun was shining on more than 1,000 South L.A. residents waiting for a free turkey dinner. Beck Selected To Be Next LAPD Chief Deputy Chief Charlie Beck is now officially Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's selection to the be the next chief of the LAPD. Beck had his first chance Tuesday to address the press and the public about taking over for Chief Bill Bratton. He thanked the mayor and the police commission.
