Swine Flu panic hits L.A. Swine flu is still a threat to Californians. There is one probable case in Los Angeles County. A CSULB student fell ill with what is suspected to be the swine flu. Test results from the health department will be available tomorrow. There have been more than a hundred cases of swine flu in the U.S., with sixteen confirmed in California. Swine flu Swine Flu is making its way into California. At last count there were 11 confirmed cases in the state. Today State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell held a news conference where he outlined how residents can keep themselves and their children safe from the virus. Proposition 1A debate The California Special Election is on May 19, and Proposition 1A is on the ballot. Supporters, including Governor Schwarzenegger and the California Teacher's Association, believe it will help raise funds where cutbacks have depleted state programs' budgets. USC hit and run update Two USC students were struck by a hit and run driver at 3 am on Sunday, March 29 at the intersection of Jefferson and Hoover. Freshman Adrianna Bachan was killed, while fellow freshman Marcus Garfinkle sustained serious injuries. (posted 3/31/09) By Marie Cunningham
Bus Riders Union proposes plan for $7.8 billion in Measure R funds Over the next 30 years, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will receive $7.8 billion dollars from Measure R funds to improve the county's bus system. The Bus Riders Union has proposed a plan for how the MTA should allocate those funds. The BRU wants lower bus fares, 500 more buses, and an expansion of the county's Bus-Only Lane system.
