Jaime Escalante Memorial Garfield High School held a memorial service today in honor of former teacher Jaime Escalante, who inspired the film stand and deliver. He died Tuesday after battling bladder cancer. Escalante taught for eighteen years at Garfield High, which announced it will name its new auditorium after the teacher. Protesters Oppose Closing Of Fremont High Students at Fremont High School are pledging to fight plans by the LA Unified School District to close down one South LA campus.
